The only mausoleum in the cemetery, this memorial for Frederick Young d.1883, is a familiar sight walking up the main drive from the west (from the entrance nearest the hospital).
Its future?
It is a Grade II Listed Building. Sadly In 2012 someone stole lead flashing from the roof and since then it has been deteriorating. It is designated as being at risk. It is now protected from the weather and the Friends and Council are together applying for a Heritage Lottery Grant towards its full restoration.
So who was Frederick Young in whose memory the mausoleum was built? Born in Devon in 1865, he lived in Hammersmith with his family. He died aged only 18. His parents erected this beautiful mausoleum in his memory. Who designed it remains undiscovered.

The building itself is of sandstone in a neogothic design. It shows a love and care in its design with great attention to detail, including the mosaic floor, a stained glass window in the north wall, fretwork carved into the south door and a roof of a fish scales design.
The interior has mosaic panels framing the ledger stone to the vault, and marble monuments lining the walls.
